Do they know it's Christmas?

By +Sue Casa

At Christmas time, there's no need to be afraid. Unless it's 1984 and you are about to be assaulted by one of the worst records of all time. Even co-writer and former Boomtown Rat, Bob Geldof admitted that the song was awful, and didn't matter. It was the concept behind the song that was important, and the concept was to raise 70,000 GBP and raise awareness for the plight of areas of Ethiopia where "millions" were dying because of one of the worst famines of all time.

Well do they? The song never answered the question

OED vs Urban Dictionary

By +Sue Casa

Every year the Oxford English Dictionary inducts new words into it's pages so that it can remain relevant and up to date with societal changes. However, this year the OED's online dictionary has gone way too far with it's new additions, lowering itself to the level of the other popular online word repository, urbandictionary.com.

Royal Baby News trumps everything else

By +Sue Casa

The news of the Royal Birth today is going to trump all other news in the UK for the next 48 hours, just as it has superseded all other cutting news stories on Slap the Penguin. But please don't be sad because in the words (almost) of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow 'into every reign a little life must fall.' And it happened on my weekend off, so I can't escape the news by hiding in the stock room at work.

Are you still proud to be 'Murcan?

By +Sue Casa

"Proud to be a 'murcan" is a phrase much overused by rednecks who yearn for the good ol' days when everything was made in 'murca. Sadly, for the southerners, everything is made in Asia; tools, cars, rocking chairs, porch swings and transistor radios. The only thing that is still made in 'murca is firearms, which is why every redneck is proud to own a gun.

Celebrity Busking (panhandling) - Susan Boyle

By +Sue Casa

Sorry for the transatlantic translation; you say tomato, I say tomato. You say moscato, I say yes please. Anyway, you get the idea these celebs are are playing music in the streets, begging for money.

Susan Boyle was discovered in 2009 on 'Britain's Got Talent' as she wowed Simon Cowell and the world with her rendition of 'I Dreamed a Dream'. She took the nation and the charts by storm with her first 3 albums going to #1 here in the UK, before the novelty wore of and people got bored of her.

The hot new craze of Swifting

By +Sue Casa

I am sure you all remember 'planking', when people would post pictures on their facebook page of them lying flat, face down and rigid in the most awkward and silly place possible. And then of course there was 'owling' which didn't quite get the same recognition, but involved people perching in an owl pose and again posting the evidence to facebook. Our American readers may also be familiar with 'Tebowing' which, I am told, lasted almost as long as his career. It seems that all of those ridiculous trends have been firmly placed in the archives, but a new trend is sweeping the nation. That trend is known as...

DNA evidence suggests a hiccup for the royals

By +Sue Casa

The bones found beneath a parking lot in Leicester, UK have been confirmed by Britain's top DNA boffins to be those of Richard III, King of England, who died in 1485 fighting the Tudors during the War of the Roses; thus leaving the throne open to Henry VII who succeeded by right of conquest. The lack of horse skeletons in the burial area suggest that Shakespeare's version of Richard III's demise was accurate at least from an equine angle.

Guest Post Contest Winner

By +Tina Cruris

Many months ago, we held a guest post contest to try to find a new writer to join our team and now, finally, we have selected the winner. Actually we selected the winner a while ago, but we forgot all about it until we received an email from one of the entrants asking us if they had won. If you are reading this, S. Meyer, your writing sucks and you didn't win. The Winner is...
