Where did the Harry Potter concept originate?

By +Brad Naylor

JK Rowling published the first Harry Potter book way back in 1997 but where did the inspiration for her characters and book titles come from? One possible theory comes from the fact that a former boyfriend was a computer programmer who worked for Hewlett Packard.

Slap the Penguin welcomes Windows 10 users

By +Brad Naylor

Do you have Windows 10 yet? It seems that although Microsoft are claiming that Windows 10 has been installed on almost 100 million devices, only a small percentage of those devices have visited slapthepenguin.com. According to our analytics, during the month of August less than 1.5% of visits to our pages came from a device running Windows 10.

Vietnamese Brothers demonstrate levitation sacks

By +Tina Cruris

30 years ago, a certain movie promised us hover boards by the year 2015. So far the technology has not materialised in a workable format, but they could be about to change thanks to Hoi Dong and Quan Tri Noi, two brothers from Vietnam who have recently demonstrated their levitation sacks, which appear to defy gravity without the need for any kind of magnetic track.

Look first, leap second

By +Brad Naylor

You may remember June 30th, 2012 when the scientific universe decreed that an extra second needed to be added to the year to account for the slowing of the earth's rotation around the sun. This Leap Second allowed the hyper accurate atomic clocks which run on International Atomic Time (TAI) to resync with Universal Time (UT1) which is defined by the rotation of the Earth. Well this year, on Tuesday June 30th we are getting another one.

Dear Tina - How do you pronounce .GIF?

By +Tina Cruris

Dear Tina, I recently got into an argument at school about how to pronounce the word GIF. I have always said GIF with a hard G and a buddy claims that it's GIF with a soft G. Please tell me I am right so that I can rub it in his face. I know you are a girl but I know that you can give advice on any topic and I trust you to come through with the facts for me.

P.S. you are super hot looking. Sometimes in bed at night, I read your posts and I touch myself. I tried friending you on facebook but I think there is something wrong because I never get an answer.

Thanks (for everything), Jimmy Johnson

Apple bans fart apps from new watch

By +Brad Naylor

Tech giant and fan boy magnet Apple Inc. have surreptitiously banned all fart apps for their new apple watch according to some app developers. For those without imagination, the concept of a fart app is to hide the iPhone close to somebody else and while standing an inconspicuously safe distance away, press a button on the Apple Watch to trigger a fart sound from the iPhone, thus making it appear that the target 'let one rip'.

Radioshack to close nearly 1800 stores

Since 1921, Radioshack has been a Mecca for geeks. Or at least it was until the internet was invented and the geeks abandoned their real social life in favor of the safer, virtual social life. The international high street chain which started out as THE place to get electronic components for Ham Radios, and later, state of the art High Fidelity music equipment has announced that it will close 1784 of it's US stores by March of this year.

Taylor Swift takes on the Great Omnipotence

By +Brad Naylor

It is a brave soul that goes head to head with the all powerful, the Great Omnipotence (noun), The Big G, and the spunky young songstress, Taylor Swift thinks she has what it takes. She has filed a lawsuit against Google requiring them to cease using the phrase "Speak Now" as part of their voice command system, claiming they are infringing copyrights from her 2010 album and single releases of the same name.

The Evolution of Absolution

By +Alexa Rankin

Since his papacy began in 2013, Pope Francis has been shaking up the Catholic Church by reviving old values, and accepting ideas traditionally ignored by previous pontiffs. Frankie the First has accepted (but does not condone) homosexuality, and has even given the idea of evolution the thumbs up since it can be integrated into the biblical version of creation, Now His Holiness is embracing technology by launching a new iPhone app for Catholics worldwide.

Minecraft Nazi strategy guide discovered

By +Brad Naylor

The game of Minecraft continues to take the world by storm with an estimated 20,000 new players every day, pushing the total number of registered users beyond 50 million. This makes the world of Minecraft a lucrative business indeed, but not without potential pitfalls. In recent months there have been an increasing number of complaints that hate groups are attempting to use Minecraft as a recruiting tool.
