Do they know it's Christmas?

By +Sue Casa

At Christmas time, there's no need to be afraid. Unless it's 1984 and you are about to be assaulted by one of the worst records of all time. Even co-writer and former Boomtown Rat, Bob Geldof admitted that the song was awful, and didn't matter. It was the concept behind the song that was important, and the concept was to raise 70,000 GBP and raise awareness for the plight of areas of Ethiopia where "millions" were dying because of one of the worst famines of all time.

Do They Know It's Christmas?
Well do they? The song never answered the question

Ukrainian police recreate 300 movie

By +Tina Cruris

Unrest in the ex-Soviet state of Ukraine has meant that local police in the town of Svatove have had to break out the riot shields to quell the unruly demonstrators. Watching the police in action is reminiscent of the Spartans in the movie 300.

Bosnia Demonstrates Latest Anti-Tank Weaponry

By +Ian C

Bosnia has been a peace loving nation since the end of the Bosnian war in 1995, but like many countries, they have continued to develop weapons systems in order stay up-to-date should they go to war again.

World Penguin Day

By +Ian C

Once again April 25th rolls around and we celebrate World Penguin Day. [WPD 2013] The Penguin is (mostly) the only animal which has a World Day all to itself. Have you ever heard of 'World Caterpillar Day' or 'World Lesser Long Eared Bat Day'? No, and with good reason. Penguins rock and all the other animals don't. Someone did try to start a World Lion Day last year on August 10th  but it won't last.

Geography Lesson from A Flock of Seagulls

By +Tina Cruris

The 80's were not known for good fashion sense, awesome haircuts or meaningful music, but the 80's were damn proud of their education system. It's a proven fact that those people who went to school in the 80's are much smarter than those who spent the 90's in school, and the 00's? Forget it, they cnt evn spl w/out autoerotic.

North Korea declare war on London barber shop

By +Alexa Rankin

The M&M Hair Academy in Ealing is in danger of being nuked by North Korea for insulting its premiere, Kim Jong Un. The West London salon has been using an image of the North Korean leader with the tag line 'Bad Hair Day...' Little did they know that the North Korean embassy is just a 3 minute walk from their barbershop, and they have been under surveillance throughout the month of April.

By +Tina Cruris

One by one the plane's communications and transponder were disabled as the plane took an unexpected left turn and flew across the the northern part of Malaysia. Soon after that, the plane vanished entirely. The circle represents the possible range of the 777 airplane at the last known point of contact.

A great week for Chinese science

This is another entry to our 2014 STP Guest Post Contest. From the keyboard of (her words) long time fan, Jean Poole. Jean does not currently have a blog or a website so we can't promote her here. So go visit www.obamacare.com or something instead.

It has been an historic week for Chinese Science both here on Earth and in space. This is an extract from the latest edition of the Chinese science magazine, 'Chinese Science Magazine'.

Germany has a sense of humor

by +Ian C

For centuries the German nation has been considered by the rest of the world to be a stoic nation with no sense of humor, but the latest round of STP visitor stats contradicts that long held belief. We can officially confirm that Germany does actually have a sense of humor.

Mr Rogers may have been a Nazi

+Ian C

"It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood..." of Düsseldorf, Germany, where in 1919 Friedrich Rüger was born to German farmers, Ernst and Hilda Rüger. According to school records, Friedrich was an outstanding student who enjoyed music and also showed great compassion and empathy for his fellow students. Upon completing his basic education, Friedrich enrolled in the Berlin School of Music to study composition. Before he graduated, war broke out in Europe and Friedrich joined the German army to fight against the allies.

Happy Republic Day to The Philippines

by +Tina Cruris

Today is July 4th and I want to wish all of our readers in the Philippines a Happy Republic Day. Republic Day celebrates the recognition of independence of the Philippines by the United States in 1946. This is a celebration which is often overlooked because it happens on the same date as American Independence Day which is obviously far more important than anybody else's day.

Wikipedia plot to take over the world discovered

by +Alexa Rankin

Everyone's favorite online reference, Wikipedia, has been caught red-handed in a plot to take over the world, not with guns or bombs, but with information. The person that controls the information holds the power. Why else would governments around the world tap into it's people's phones?

Twit and run

by +Ian C

A shamefully dumb British driver waived her right to silence or as it is known in the US, 'Miranda Rights' by tweeting her involvement in a criminal act last Sunday. "Definitely knocked a cyclist off his bike earlier—I have right of way he doesn't even pay road tax! #bloodycyclists" has been read by millions of tweeters including @NorwichPoliceUK.

The new Lesbian flag

The Island of Lesbos is the third largest of the Greek Islands and can be found in the northeastern Aegean Sea, mere miles off the coast of Turkey. The narrow Mytilini Strait is all that separates this independent Greek Island from it's previous Turkish owners.

In Mexico, Cinco de Mayo is observed to commemorate the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín.

In America, Cinco de Mayo is observed to commemorate the creation of Mexico's number one exported beer, Corona, which was invented on May 5th, 1925, under the leadership of Cervecería Modelo.

Deported for being too sexy

by +Alexa Rankin

For as long as humans have been around, people have been deported from their homeland, and for many reasons, mostly revolving around being unspeakably naughty or having outspoken political views, but Omar Borkan Al Gala was deported from his home country of Saudi Arabia for simply being too sexy.
