The 4th Annual Slap The Penguin Awards

Welcome to the 4th Annual Slap the Penguin Awards. This is the reason why many of us have been quiet for the last 2 weeks. It takes time and energy to collect and count votes so our output was severely reduced. Yes we have done this 3 times before and you can see the previous Slappy Awards here: ONE TWO THREE

Puppeteer Frank Oz struggles with two jobs

By +Ian C

Master voice actor and puppeteer Frank Oz has had to double his workload because of the seventh Star Wars movie. The voice of Frank Oz is known in every household with children across the World thanks to Sesame Street. It was his talent for making furry Muppet monsters seem so lovable that caught the attention of George Lucas, who instantly hired him to bring Jedi Master Yoda to life.

Top 10 Superheroes

By +Brad Naylor

With it's release still more than a year away, the movie 'Batman vs. Superman' is creating more excitement than most comic book geeks can handle. From the debacle about casting Ben Affleck as Batman to the rumors about who will be playing Lex Luthor (will it be Bryan Cranston or Joaquin Phoenix?) The main question that the announcement of this movie raised for me is, 'Does Batman really have a chance of beating Superman?'

We discover what Meat Loaf WON'T do for love

Remember 1993 when Meat Loaf went Back into Hell and came out with I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That), which dominated the music charts worldwide except for France. You don't? Selective amnesia? Anyway, 21 years later STP has discovered what exactly it is that Meat Loaf won't do for love.

2014 Special Winter Olympics preview

Once again it is time to showcase another entry in our 2014 Guest Post Contest. This one comes from one of our British readers, Sue Casa. Please share your thoughts in the comments section to help us judge these entries.

The 2014 Winter Olympics will be happening this February, and after they are done, the Special Winter Olympics begin. For those of you who are unaware of the Special Olympics, it is an opportunity for alternately abled athletes to compete at the highest level against their peers without getting their arses kicked by competitors with, say, two legs.

Where are they now? Pretty In Pink

by +Tina Cruris

It was February 1986, long before I was even a glint in my father's eye [liar - Ed.]and John Hughes was on a roll from '16 candles' and 'The Breakfast Club' and the world was suffering from Molly Ringwald withdrawal, so John wrote 'Pretty in Pink', a class clash movie where a poor, pouty redhead has to choose between her doting childhood sweetheart and a rich but sensitive playboy.

Most of North East America is currently experiencing an extreme cold snap and the blame falls firmly on the shoulders of Tom Hanks.

The Twelve Days of Christmas

by +Ian C+Brad Naylor+Tina Cruris and +Alexa Rankin

The Twelve Days of Christmas needed radically updating since nobody has recently made a gift of turtle doves or leaping lords. Between the four of us, we have revamped the old song and we will be revealing it over the actual Twelve Days of Christmas.

Are you out of your Viking mind?

Here is a guest post from our friend Titan Young who has been an infrequent contributor in the past. This is not an official entry for our Guest Post contest but we are using it to highlight the fact that the contest is running and that we are inviting our readers to enter. [DETAILS]

Minnesota Vikings coach Leslie Frazier was fired this week on what has become known in the NFL as Black Monday, the Monday following the last game of the regular season. Frazier was let go despite a 100% win record for the final week of the 2013 season. Overall this season the Vikings finished with a 5-10-1 season and Frazier had a record with the Vikings of 21-33-1.

Bubes Says - All is quiet on New Year's Day

Happy New Year, ladies. It's me Bubes with some of my buddies from 1983. That's me dressed as King Bono, with my buddies Dave 'The Edge' Evans and the other two. Not to be confused with the other two from The Smiths or the other two from New Order, who actually started a side project called The Other Two.
