Slap the Penguin's Second Anniversary

July 2012 is a very exciting month for the crew at Slap the Penguin, and not because we are fans of the Olympic Games. This July marks the second anniversary of Slap the Penguin across it's many (two) incarnations.
Awww, thanks. How thoughtful of you
Yep, on July 22nd, 2010 we started pumping our combined creative juices into a satirical news blog known as My Twist News and then when the juices ran dry we kept writing regardless until finally we all suffered burn-out and were forced to take a break.

We resurfaced in September 2011 as Slap the Penguin with a slightly new look and very few fresh ideas. We lost one writer, but gained two new ones and then lost one of the new ones so overall we had a net gain of zero writers.

Now, on July 22nd, 2012 after 2 years of hard work, having created 300+ posts and entertained almost 100,000 visitors, we are celebrating by popping the cork on a bottle of 1974 champagne from Thailand, as enjoyed by James Bond in the movie, The Man with the Golden Gun.

Cheers! And here's to the next 2 years of satirical news, product reviews and stressing out trying to post 4 or 5 quality pages per week. Do you have any idea how much effort it takes to keep this thing running? These stories don't write themselves. It's no wonder that there is constant bickering in the STP virtual office. And none of us get paid for doing this. We just get a miniscule income, trickling in from those annoying ads that you see between posts.

Sometimes, I wonder why I bother, and then we get a comment from one of the readers who says, "Great Post" or "Dammit, I just sprayed coffee over my laptop cos you made me laugh" or "This site sucks, you make stuff up and try to trick people" and then I realise why I do this.

Someone famous once said something along the lines of, "If I can make just one person laugh, then I have done my job" and that is the driving force behind why I continue to flog this dead horse.

Feel free to express yourself in the comments section below, we do read all of the comments, even the spam ones, although the spam ones get filtered out and deleted.
