How do you like them apples? (Guest Post)

The following is a story from our Washington State correspondant, John F.

A federal judge decided in favor of Apple Computers today against Washington state apple farmers over the use of their corporate name and likenesses of the corporate logo on packaging and advertising.

Suggestion for the new cartoon-like

The apple growers will still be allowed to use the likeness in advertising so long as the fruit appears "photo-real" or obviously cartoon-like. The fruit will have to be described in both advertising and packaging as "Chinese Apples" unless the necessary licensing fees are paid.

An attorney for Apple says that the company is begrudgingly happy with the outcome, but that the company is disappointed that demands for back fees were thrown out. "They have been using our likeness and name for over a quarter of a century," he stated, "we had hoped to recover some of this lost and very justly deserved revenue"
