Dear Tina – My smartphone makes me feel dumb

Dear Tina,
I finally decided to upgrade my old flip phone for a shiny new smartphone with all the bells and whistles. It plays music and has a slide out keyboard and a touchscreen. It looks really impressive, but so far I have not been able to do anything smart with it. I haven’t figured out how to text and I can't get into my voicemail. I managed to change my wallpaper but it changes back the next day.
The guy in the store said I could sink my email accounts but I don't know what that means. Please help me figure out my phone.

Sincerely, Phonephobe

Dear Phonephobe, thanks for taking the time to send me this email.
Unfortunately I can not give you any specific advice since you did not include any details about which phone you own or what carrier you use.
Is your smartphone too advanced?
Is your phone too advanced for you?
It strikes me that you have made a large jump out of your comfort zone, going from your old familiar flip phone to a new hi-tech smartphone, and maybe that was too big of a step to make.
Sync or Swim?
This is not how to sink your email !
Either return the phone and pick up a cheaper, simpler phone that you can be more comfortable with or download the .PDF manual from the manufacturers website and bring your tech skills into the 21st century. If you have any specific questions please include make/model/carrier next time.

Awww. That little baby is adorable. I haven't advanced to a smart phone yet. I'm too scared. Not that I won't be able to figure out how to use it, but that I'll get addicted to it and start ignoring life around me.
