Dear Tina - My mom wants to friend me on Facebook

Dear Tina,
My mom wants to friend me on facebook and stuff just so she can spy on me and that’s like so not fair. OMG, why can't she like leave me alone to have my own friends and like not get all up in my business and stuff. Dude, facebook is for young people anyway. It's so not fair. She said if I don't accept her request she will like ground me and stuff and take my cell phone away.

What can I do?
LOLGIRL

Dear LOLGIRL, thanks for taking the time to write your email. I wish you had taken a little extra time to read through it for like grammatical errors and stuff before sending it. There is nothing worse than having to translate a teen email before you can read it. What is even scarier is that you typed it as if you were speaking it. And one more thing, did you actually call me dude?

Do I look like a Dude?
Anyway, since my inbox is practically empty right now, I will share my opinion regarding your mother making a friend request.

First, I would be grateful that your mother shows an interest in what you are doing and wants to be a part of it.

Second, she is your mother and has every right to spy on you until you become a responsible adult.

Third, you say it's so not fair. Life isn't always fair and the sooner you realize that, the sooner you stop complaining about it.

Too blunt? Too bad! If you want sympathy then email Seventeen Magazine.
