Brian Williams moves from Nightly News to Daily Show

By +Alexa Rankin

Just days after being officially suspended without pay for 6 months, NBC Nightly News anchor, Brian Williams, has found himself in a new job. Today Comedy Central announced that Brian Williams will be the new anchor of The Daily Show in September when John Stewart's contract expires.

Brian has already shown his funny side by appearing on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, where he frequently "Slow Jammed" the news. He has also had his news broadcasts edited and set to a beat by Fallon's crew to simulate him rapping to classic hip hop tunes.

Viewers of Jon Stewart and The Daily Show are used to seeing a sightly skewed version of the news in order to inject a soupçon of satire, but how will they adapt to Williams' less honest approach to news reporting?

The suspension comes as a result of Brian Williams exaggerating a story from 12 years ago, in which the helicopter he was riding in during the US invasion of Iraq was hit by an RPG and forced to land. The more accurate version suggests that his helicopter may have taken some small arms fire, while a different helicopter in the group was shot down.

Stewart is pleased to hand the comedy baton to his buddy Brian saying, "I have the utmost respect for Brian's talents. His penchant for twisting the facts makes him ideal for news satire and the timing is just perfect for everyone. I can move on with my plans of becoming an international opera singer knowing that my Daily Show desk is in good hands."

Brian Williams was not available to discuss the announcement, but sources say he is looking forward to taking the NBC stick out of his ass and being able to deliver a more relaxed news broadcast.

What is your take on the whole situation? Do you think Brian was treated harshly by NBC? Should he have stuck to the original story about his gulf war exploits? What other breaking news stories did he make up during his career? Share below.
