National Football League sue unknown writer over copyright infringement

Enna Fell was an unknown writer from a tiny town in New Hampshire until the National Football League named her in a multimillion dollar copyright infringement lawsuit over her newly published book, The Superb Owl, a story about a nocturnal bird who was admired by all the other birds in the forest for her majestic plumage.

Attorneys for the NFL claim that their trademarks and copyrights were deliberately and maliciously infringed upon, not just by the blatant theft of the legally protected trademark title "The Superbowl", but even the authors name when spoken out loud sounds like NFL.

Enna has responded through her lawyer uncle, Michael Fell, regarding the ridiculous charges that she faces.

"Enna Fell is publishing this book using her legal birthname and any homophonic likeness claimed by the NFL is purely coincidental and far from malicious or intentional. Enna is a young writer who has just had her first ever book published and she was very excited to share the story of a beautiful owl who brightened the lives of many other night time woodland creatures with her resplendent plumage. Enna does not even like football and I am told she hasn't even sat through a complete game on the TV, let alone plotted to profit from any similarity to the naming of the climactic football final game."

Many marketing experts know that the NFL are very protective of their brand and their logos, even to the point of copyrighting the colors used in team identifying insignia. They will ruthlessly go after anyone who deliberately tries to take away one of their revenue dollars by misrepresenting themselves as a sponsor or affiliate or by suggesting they are in someway connected to the NFL or it's products.

While it seems pretty obvious to the unbiased observer that Enna was not deliberately trying to divert income from the NFL into her own pocket, the NFL still maintain that harm was done to their brand and restitution must be made. It seems at the moment that Enna is going to remove her book from sale without a fight since she cannot afford the huge fees involved in fighting this case. The NFL have said they would cease all legal action and not seek any damages should Enna withdraw her publication from sale.

Enna is obviously disappointed that she may not see her book reach all the young readers she hoped it would, but has decided not to give up on her dream of becoming a best selling author, and is already writing another book this time based on the creatures from The Wizard of Oz called "Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!"
