Benedict Cumberbatch can't say 'penguin'

By +Alexa Rankin

In 2009, the sexy voiced Benedict Cumberbatch narrated a BBC documentary called Wild Pacific, which in typical BBC documentary fashion contained some beautiful images and some amazing nature and wildlife footage. The one thing that spoiled it was Benedict's inability to correctly pronounce the word 'penguin'. For many, this may not be a big issue, but for someone who is intrinsically linked with the monochromed flightless bird it's a deal breaker.

If it had been a one time error, dubbed out by the BBC sound engineers, then it may have been forgivable. But NOOOOO. He screwed it up 4 times and it was left in on the final version. I have been a long time Benedict Cumberbatch fan. I adored him as Sherlock and got ever so slightly moist listening to his Smaug voice in the Hobbit movies, but now I can barely stand to look at him.

I present the evidence in the form of a YouTube clip, borrowed from the BBC's Graham Norton show.

The first time you watch the video it is moderately amusing, but with repeated views it becomes apparent that he did not even attempt to say penguin correctly. And then to add insult to injury Benedict was recruited to play the role of Classified the Wolf in the 2014 Penguins of Madagascar movie.

I hope you are reading this because until you can prove that you have learned how to say penguin correctly, I will refer to you as Bendydick Thundersnatch. Also, if you want a personal tutor to help you with correct mouth positioning then email me.
