Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce supplied the essential elements to the music of The Smiths |
According to his autobiography, after the break up of The Smiths in 1987, Stephen Morrissey found himself out of a job, and dabbled briefly in his boyhood love of gardening before launching a solo music career in 1988. It was during this period that the celibate (his own decision) Morrissey discovered that he could, in his own words "project his astral self into future moments".
Morrissey had been struggling with narcissism during his time in The Smiths, and while experiencing his temporal spirit adventures he would often visit and observe his future self. It was during one such event while viewing himself as a 'charming' (and slightly pudgy) middle aged man in the year 2012 that he was inspired to write the hit single, 'You're The One For Me, Fatty', which featured on the 1992 album 'Your Arsenal'.
Morrissey ceased his temporastral activities a few years ago, claiming that he no longer wanted to know what the future held for him and for other people in his life. Maybe he saw something that he didn't want to see, or maybe he is getting old and can't take the strain of visiting the future. Perhaps the light that doesn't go out actually does. What do you think?
Can you see the future? Should Morrissey quit taking off his shirt? Can you name all four members of The Smiths? Give your answers and opinions below.
