Things could get a little Messi
Tomorrow (Sunday 19th) sees the biggest football game of the quadrennial for 96% of the planet, and for the other 4% it's called soccer and their team is out so they stopped giving a crap. The 2026 FIFA World Cup Final will be contested by Spain and Argentina at Met Life Stadium in New Jersey at 3 EST/ 12 PST.
Both teams have had a tough journey to get to the final, with Spain winning all but one game, the tie with Cabo Verde. They have scored 16 goals and conceded just 1 goal so far. Argentina are yet to lose in this World Cup and have scored 19 goals, but they have conceded 8 goals and have had to come from behind in many of their games against teams that theoretically should have been easily beaten.
Many people across the internet have called out FIFA for corruption and match fixing, giving Argentina a golden ticket to the Final after their run of last minute, come from behind victories, but let's be honest, if FIFA were able to fix matches and have their ideal final fixture then it wouldn't be Spain playing Argentina, it would be Portugal. Christian CR7 Ronaldo is FIFAs favorite fuckboi, and the revenue from that game would be off the charts. Ronaldo vs Messi in what could be both players final ever international game would have put ticket prices for the final through the roof.

Yes, Messi is good, the greatest of his generation, but he wouldn't last 30 minutes on the pitch playing with Argentine hero, Mario Kempes in the 1978 Final. The game against The Netherlands was brutal and by today's refereeing/VAR standards there would only be 3 players left on the field by the full time whistle blew.
Another first for FIFA and the World Cup at this final is the inclusion of a Superbowl style half-time show with stars so big that they are known globally by just their first names. Madonna, Shakira, Elmo and Chris will all be sharing a stage for this musical extravaganza. A normal soccer half time is exactly 15 minutes, as defined by the rules of the game, but FIFA, possibly swayed by money, have given their blessing to extend the half time break to incorporate some entertainment, as if the game itself isn't entertaining enough.

As an independent, neutral and objective journalist I hope Spain win, and that is where most of the betting odds are too, with the results after 90 minutes favoring a Spain win at 42%, an Argentina victory at 27% and the remaining 31% calling for a tie, which would bring extra time and 30 more minutes of the commentators 'GOATing' Lionel Messi.
Whatever happens on the pitch on Sunday I can say with unwavering and absolute confidence that the World Cup will be won by...
a Spanish speaking team.
