Dear Tina - How can I dump Starbucks?

By +Tina Cruris

Dear Tina, I am a huge coffee fan but I am sick of paying Starbucks prices. Even though I like their products, I think they are overpriced. What are my options for getting barista quality coffee for less than the price of my daily brew. I don't mind making my own, but I am not impressed by name brand 'instant' coffee. Please help me feed my caffeine craving without emptying my bank account.

Thanks, Carrie Boo

Print out your own Valentine's Day extension

By +Ian C

This year Valentine's Day falls on a Saturday, which means that there are very few excuses for forgetting to get the love of your life a card/chocolates/bunch of flowers/fluffy toy. However, those who do forget can print out an official extension from the US Department of Marital Harmony. The extension is valid only for married couples and is a one time benefit to prevent men from spending the weekend sleeping on the couch.

Friday 13th part VI

By +Sue Casa

I'm the new girl so it looks like I have to do this year's Friday 13th post. I will probably have to do tomorrows St. Valentine's day post too. I took a little time to look back through previous posts to get an idea of what is required in a Slap the Penguin F13 post. It looks like we just rehash the same ideas over and over with different characters, and a similar story. Not unlike a certain series of horror movies...

Radioshack to close nearly 1800 stores

Since 1921, Radioshack has been a Mecca for geeks. Or at least it was until the internet was invented and the geeks abandoned their real social life in favor of the safer, virtual social life. The international high street chain which started out as THE place to get electronic components for Ham Radios, and later, state of the art High Fidelity music equipment has announced that it will close 1784 of it's US stores by March of this year.

Six Flags responds to Disneyland Measles

By +Ian C

Just weeks after Main Street in Disneyland CA. was pinpointed as the source of the biggest measles outbreak of the 21st century, Six Flags have responded with a series of Chicken Pox Parties at their US parks. This bold move could bring in hundreds of extra visits as crazy anti-vaccine moms try to get their young kids immunized through natural exposure to the varicella virus.

Top 10 - Rhode Island to repeal dumb laws

By +Brad Naylor

Everybody seems to know at least one stupid law which made sense when it was written, but is no longer valid in today's society. Rhode Island, the smallest state, is revisiting some of these outdated laws and either repealing or rewriting them. I took a brief trip around the interwebs to find some of the most amusingly irrelevant ones.

Dear Tina - Groundhog Day

By +Tina Cruris

Dear Tina, I am confused about the whole groundhog day thing. What does his shadow have to do with the weather? Can those guys in hats really speak groundhogese? Is Phil really 126 years old? It seems to me that those old farts in the hats are just trying to perpetuate a stupid tourist tradition so that they only have to work for 1 week per year.

Sincerely, Anti-Groundhog Girl
